Tribal casinos in Washington State
Washington has 29 federally recognized tribes, and of these 28 have Class III casino-style gaming compacts including slot machines, black jack, craps and roulette, wagering games and electronic forms of games of chance. As of November 2010, 22 tribes operate 28 casinos in Washington State.
The Cowlitz Tribe is the only federally acknowledged tribe in Washington without a compact. The Tribe requested compact negotiations Sept. 28, 2004, which were subsequently put on hold.
Three agencies regulate Indian gaming in Washington: the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC), the Washington State Gaming Commission, and each individual tribe’s Gaming Commission/Agency.
