Tribal casinos in Washington State
Washington has 29 federally recognized tribes, and of these, 27 have Class III casino-style gaming compacts including slot machines, black jack, craps and roulette, wagering games and electronic forms of games of chance. Currently 20 tribes operate 24 casinos in Washington State.
The Cowlitz and Spokane tribes are the two federally acknowledged tribes in Washington without compacts. As of January 2005, the Spokane tribe was operating Class III gaming without a compact, although negotiations resumed in December 2004 after several years without discussions.
The Cowlitz Tribe requested compact negotiations Sept. 28, 2004, and as of January 2005, negotiations were in process. (The tribe had requested negotiations Aug. 23, 2002, but they were put on hold at the tribe's request.)
Three agencies regulate Indian gaming in Washington.
